DML 631: Instructional Design, Curricula, and Learning Theory
This course focuses on combining state-of-the-art technology with the traditional principles of curriculum design and learning theory. Students construct a technology-based learning project conductive to the skills appropriate to the age of intended learners.
Final Project
For this course I partnered with local non-profit Career Girls to create a series of career education lesson plans targeted at Middle School. I published these lesson plans using an online learning platform called Versal and received a grant from the Versal Foundation to create lesson plan content that can be shared with other educators.
Lesson 1: Overcoming Obstacles: In this lesson students learn from Career Girls mentors about how they have overcome obstacles in their lives and careers and then create students create their own PSA announcement about a strategy for overcoming obstacles.
Lesson 2: Heroes, Mentors and Role Models: In this lesson students will explore learn the difference between heroes and mentors and learn how they might identify and find a mentor. Students will create a website about one of their heroes using Mozilla Thimble.
Lesson 3: Lifelong Learning: In this lesson students will learn about the importance of lifelong learning as well as the growth mindset. Students create a learning plan using Pinterest.
